Now that the New Year is officially upon us, it’s the perfect time to get serious about the health and well-being of your pup.

What a better way to start the New Year that to review your dog’s health, improve their well-being, and strengthen the bond between the two of you!

And luckily, it isn’t nearly as daunting as it sounds. Making a few simple lifestyle changes, as well as being conscientious about the products we use, the food we feed, and the time we spend with our pups will go a long way in improving you and your dog’s health and quality of life.

Here are a few key suggestions that Chi and I try and keep in mind as we form our new year resolutions!

  1. Preventative care. Nothing is scarier than having your furry friend fall ill, but lots of common health problems can be avoided with proper preventative care. That means using tick and flea treatment, taking care of your dog’s teeth, and bringing them for regular veterinary appointments.
  2. Be prepared for the unexpected. Investing in a pet first aid kit can save your pet’s life as well as help with day-to-day accidents. Hopefully, you’ll never have to use it, but isn’t it great to know that you’re covered just in case?  You can get one from my amazon shop here!
  3. Get in shape! Over 60% of dogs are overweight or obese. Just losing a few pounds can add years to your dog’s lifespan. Investing in high-quality dog food, making sure your pooch gets adequate exercise, and limiting treats to special occasions are all ways to help keep your dog trim and healthy.
  4. Be present. Spend time with your dog. You have friends, a job, and a family…your dog only has you! Make them a priority. Spending time with your dog will make them feel good, and studies show that petting and relaxing with your pet has health benefits for humans, too!

Chi is off to the gym to get started on a new fitness routine. What are you all doing to make 2020 the best year yet for you and your pup??
